In his last days, Adolf Hitler raged in his bunker that he had been defeated because he had been betrayed from the inside. In part, he was right. His armies were being crushed on all fronts but from the beginning there were Germans determined to bring him and his Nazi party down. This is the story of those who, starting in 1935, repeatedly attempted to kill Hitler, frustrate his war aims, pass his military secrets to the Allies and, from 1943 onwards, strike a separate peace with the West, which would have avoided eastern Europe falling under the Soviet yoke.
