The Hurricane was the mainstay of RAF Fighter Command in the early years of the war. At first thrown against the Luftwaffe in a desperate attempt to halt the Blitzkrieg, later Hurricane pilots brought down more aircraft in the Battle of Britain than did the glamorous Spitfire pilots.
