If you want to challenge your reading habits a little this summer, Great Bookish Menu is the perfect way to do it. The challenge is to read at least one book from six different genres:

  • Local Legends
  • Banned Books
  • Outback Noir
  • Historical Fiction
  • Science Fiction and Fantasy
  • Non-Fiction

With these topics, you are bound to discover new authors you may not have tried before. We've created some short suggested reads for each genre, but you can find your own titles too as long as they fit the genres.

  1. Local Legends
    Lanarkshire has been a creative hub for many great authors. Explore the writing of one of our local legends.

  2. Banned Books
    Can you believe some places ban books? Read a banned book and see why it caused a stir somewhere in the world.

  3. Outback Noir
    It's time to look beyond the gritty streets of Glasgow and Edinburgh for a crime novel, how about Australia?

  4. Historical Fiction
    Travel back in time and visit a time unlike our own current lives.

  5. Science Fiction and Fantasy
    Reach for the stars with a novel that will transport you to completely new worlds and fantasies.

  6. Non-Fiction
    Not everything you read needs to be a made up story. Try something real for a change.
